57 horses qualify for endurance races in Barka

Muscat: As many as 57 horses were able to qualify for the endurance races for the season 2023-24.


The race is being organised by the Oman Equestrian and Racing Federation and under the supervision of the International Equestrian Federation, at Al Mohamed Endurance Village in Barka.


The number of participants reached 71 horses, divided into three races of 100 km, 80 km and 40 km.


16 horses out of 21 were able to qualify in the 100 km race, 8 horses out of 9 successfully qualified in the 80 km race and 33 from 41 horses qualified in the 40 km race.


The veterinary examination was done for all horses to ensure their safety and readiness.


The 100 km international race included three stages: the first stage was given white colour for a distance of 40 km, the second stage was given red colour for a distance of 35 km, and the third stage was given blue colour for a distance of 25 km. The heart rate was 64 beats per minute and the minimum speed was 14 km per hour.


The 80 km qualifying race also included two stages, the first stage for 40 km and given the white colour, and the second stage for 40 km and given the white colour.


The highest speed was 16 km/hour and the minimum speed was 12 km/hour, and the age of the horse was not less than five years.


On the other hand, Sayyid Munther bin Saif bin Hamad al Busaidi, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Oman Equestrian Federation, and Hamoud bin Ali bin Saif al Nasiri, OEF Secretary, participated in the General Assembly of the Asian Equestrian Federation in China, where the Board of Directors of the Asian Equestrian Federation was elected and specialised sports committees were formed. This visit also included attendance at the 19th Asian Games in Hangzhou.
