MUSCAT: An initiative taken by Pakistani community in Oman saw new clothes being distributed to help underprivileged celebrate Eid Al Fitr in a memorable manner.
As part of a novel concept, community members Imran Toor, Mohammed Shah Shirani and Shaandar Bukhari distributed new set of clothes among the needy people ahead of the festivity in Muscat and Al Buraimi.
The distribution in Muscat took place at Al Ravi Restaurant, Ruwi.
Dr Mohammed Imran Ali Chaudhry, Ambassador of Pakistan, HH Sayyidah Asila al Said and a senior Omani volunteer who is referred as Mother of Volunteers attended the event. Also present were senior community members Syed Aftab Gilani and Zahid Shakoor.
The activity was held in Al Buraimi and Muscat.
Imran Toor said, “There are many people among our surroundings who cannot afford to buy new clothes. So, we initiated the clothes distribution drive by looping in people who are better off.”
Shaandar Bukhari, the programme organiser, said, “We reached out to the community through social media groups and asked them to donate us their clothes which are in good condition. Imran Toor approached a garment shop asking them to provide a good rate to buy new clothes in bulk.”
Around 250 needy people benefited from the drive in Muscat and over 100 in Al Buraimi.
Bukhari mentions that he was inspired by his late father Syedzada Sakhawat Ali Shah Bukhari, a renowned name among the Pakistani diaspora in the Sultanate.
He wanted to donate his clothes to the needy who can wear it for their Eid for prayers and circulated a post on social media. He then got connected with Imran and expressed his desire towards similar campaigns for the needy. Mohammed Shah Shirani volunteered to do similar activity in Al Buraimi for the poor.
