Al Qudra emerge champions in karate championship

MUSCAT: Al Qudra Karate Club claimed the overall title in the sixth open championship of the Karate Pioneers Academy, concluded at the Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex in Bausher on March 18.


Ali Main Karate Club became the runners-up while The Champ club came third.


The closing ceremony was held under the auspices of Saleh bin Mohammed al Zakwani, Member of the State Council and Chairman of the Omani-British Friendship Association, and in the presence of Salem bin Hamad al Mahrouqi, Chairman of the Oman Karate Committee and Sheehan Mohammed Bahrami, President of the JSKA Organisation for Asia in kata and kumite.


The two-day competition witnessed the participation of 335 male and female players representing 27 clubs, academies and private centres from nine countries including the Sultanate of Oman, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Qatar, Yemen, Sudan, Iraq, Iran and United Kingdom.


The championship was supervised by Karate Pioneers Academy Chairman Al Shaihan Ahmed bin Saeed al Zakwani. The competitions were managed by an elite group of international, Asian, continental and national referees.


On the sidelines, a lecture was held on March 16 in the auditorium of the complex, for the coaches to introduce the tournament system, its conditions, and technical matters related to the coach’s communication with his players during the bouts within the competition ring.


The competitors were divided according to age groups and weights in kata and kumite, which were determined by the organising committee of the tournament.


At the end of the ceremony, the chief guest honoured the referees, the organisers, the medical staff and the sponsoring companies for this tournament, which are the Omani Qatari Telecommunications Company (Ooredoo), Al Bashaer Meat Company, Al Meera and Muscat Daily.


Then, medals were presented to male and female players who secured the top three positions in each of the competing categories. The chief guest handed over the cups to the first three clubs in the general standings.


The Al Qudra Karate Club were presented the champions cup while Ali Main Karate Club claimed the runners-up trophy and The Champ club took the third-place trophy.


In conclusion, the president of the Karate Pioneers Academy handed memorial shields to the chief guest, the Oman Karate Committee chief as well as to the head of the GSKI Asia.


Al Shaihan Ahmed expressed his gratitude, appreciation and respect to all referees, organisers and participating club staff including administrators, coaches, players and parents of players for their fruitful cooperation for the advancement of karate sport in the Sultanate of Oman.
