

MUSCAT: The UAE Open Karate Championship was launched in the sports hall of the Sharjah Sports Club in the United Arab Emirates, under the auspices of the UAE Karate Federation and the Sharjah Sports Club, with the participation of 624 male and female players representing 19 countries on March 3.
Hosts UAE, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Bahrain, Qatar, Jordan, Egypt , Algeria, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Russia, Italy, Uzbekistan, America, the Philippines, Nepal, India, Pakistan, in addition to the participation of the Sultanate of Oman with a group of international referees are taking part in the championship.
The new and amended rules has been applied by the International Karate Federation in the tournament where the championship was divided into kata and kumite competitions according to the weights and ages for the categories of seniors, youth, juniors, cadets and kids for males and females.
The competitions started on the first day with the junior and senior categories for males and females, then on the second day the competitions for juniors, under 14 years old and under 12 years old began, then on the last day the competitions and final matches for the junior and Seniors categories started.
In the general ranking, Russia came top with 53 medals, including 22 gold medals, the UAE came second with 104 medals (21 gold) and Azerbaijan were third with 12 medals (5 gold) and Jordan finished fourth with 8 medals, including 3 gold.
The Oman Karate Committee participated in the UAE Open Karate Championship 2023 with 10 international referees, namely: Ahmed al Zakwani, Sulaiman al Hinai, Yousef al Siyabi, Salim al Qutaiti, Salim al Masrouri, Hilal al Abdali, Mohammed al Hinai, Adil al Hinai, Hisham Bani Toroof and Mohie Lutfi. Their participation was by attending the lecture that was held to discuss the implementation of the new and amended rules before the start of the open championship competitions.
The Omani referees participated in managing the championship competitions on 5 mats as referees and judges, which contributed to the knowledge of the new changes that occurred in the international arbitration law for kata and kumite.
