MoSD launches trademark for products of disabled

MUSCAT: The Ministry of Social Development launched the trademark ‘Azm’ for promoting products made by persons with disabilities at a celebration held by the ministry, on Sunday.


The celebration was organized by the Director-General of Persons with Disabilities Affairs in collaboration with Jusoor Foundation under the auspices of Qais bin Mohammed al Yousef, Minister of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion in the presence of Her Excellency Dr Laila bint Ahmed al Najjar, Minister of Social Development, at Intercity Hotel Muscat.


Azm trademark is aimed at promoting products made by the persons with disabilities in order to enable them financially.


By launching the trademark, the ministry seeks to boost consumer trust in the products of the persons with disabilities which bear the new brand. The move also aims to create a mental image of the for the consumers that these products are reliable and subjected to quality standards.


During the celebration, the chief guest and the attendees watched a visual display containing the importance of the new in serving this significant society segment.


The celebration saw the opening of an exhibition that highlights various products made by persons with disabilities under the tradaemark ‘Azm’.


In addition the celebration witnessed the signing of three agreements. The first of these was an agreement between the Ministry of Social Development and Jusoor Foundation on the launch of the trademark ‘Azm’. The second agreement was signed between the Ministry of Social Development and the Arab Open University whereby the university should open a marketing outlet at its new campus for the products of persons with disabilities affiliated with the Vocational Rehabilitation and Evaluation Center of the Ministry of Social Development.


The third agreement was signed between the Jusoor Foundation and Zubair Enterprises Development Centre (Zubair EDC) for the preparation and implementation of Azm initiative.


The initiative involves promoting the culture of entrepreneurship among persons with disabilities and the supervisors who undertake their training rehabilitation, providing the necessary commercial and marketing guidance and advice, improving the quality of their products and enhancing consumer confidence in the products registered under the umbrella of ‘Azm’. The aim is to enable larger-scale marking and promotion of products made by persons with disabilities through cooperation and partnership between the Ministry of Social Development and the Jusoor Foundation and other partners.
