Box cricket tournament begins in Wadi Kabeer

As many as 12 teams from Oman and other GCC countries as well as from India are facing each other in the fourth season of the Telyboyz Box Cricket Tournament which got under way at Muscat Club, Wadi Kabir on Thursday. It will continue on Friday.


Zeeshan Maqsood, Captain of Oman National Cricket Team, will officially inaugurate the two-day cricket festival on Friday in the presence of a large gathering of various officials and other key personalities.


Winners of the tournament will receive $1,000 while Runners up is to receive $500.


With many activities other than just cricket, the event is pulling a large crowd to get entertained as a plethora of gastronomic delights from North Kerala are all guaranteed to tickle the taste buds. A gamut of cultural events too are in the line up to woo the visitors, the organisers said.


"This edition of the box cricket tournament is very special to all the players as the tournament has returned after a gap of two years owing to the pandemic. We are sure this event is all the more exciting not just for the players but for the whole family," Thafsi, one of the organisers said.


All the 12 teams were given away with their jerseys at an event held at the Kairali Gardens last week.


Twelve teams in the fray are studded with Tellicherians (a very popular town in Kerala). The tournament is showcasing some exciting games that keep the spectators on their toes. The stringent rules of the box cricket format is certainly adding spice to the players' conventional cricketing skills. This time the tourney is witnessing the participation of a few players who represented India in the recently held indoor cricket world cup in Australia.


Telyboyz, is a group of sports lovers, have been organisng different sporting events including inter-schools football and different type of cricket tournaments for over two decades in Oman. tournament also includes some fun-filled activities for family and kids as well as some lip smacking Thalassery food counters.


The tournament is sponsored by Nada Hapiness in association with Sea pearls Gold and Diamond Jewellery. The tournament is also supported by JBC Express Freight, Wellness Medical Centre, Zay deteregents, Kairali gardens, FAP and Sidab Sea tours.
