Muscat: The Sultanate of Oman, represented by the Ministry of Higher Education, Research and Innovation, took part in the 20th meeting of heads of higher education standardization committees in the GCC states.

The meeting, held via video conferencing and organized by the GCC Secretariat General, discussed the findings of a technical team tasked with studying distance education and e-learning criteria.

The GCC undersecretaries of higher education ministries approved determinants for acknowledging distance education and e-learning with the purpose of devising a uniform guide for this domain.

The meeting reviewed efforts to combat fake certificates. It was agreed that the technical team would provide the Secretariat General with the legal measures to address this issue in member states and utilize the latest techniques to discover fake certificates that find their way in specialized government establishments.

The meeting was chaired by Dr Bakhit Ahmed al Mahri, Higher Education Undersecretary (Oman).
