Oman takes part in Arab Information Ministers Council meeting

Cairo: The Sultanate of Oman, represented by the Ministry of Information, took part in the 52nd round of Arab Information Ministers Council, held at the headquarters of the Arab League’s (AL) Secretariat General in Cairo on Thursday. The Omani delegation at the meeting was led by Dr Abdullah bin Nasser al Harrasi, Minister of Information. Ahmed bin Rasheed Khattabi, Assistant Secretary-General and Head of the Information and Communication Sector at the Arab League, expressed his appreciation for the implementation of the Arab Media Strategy, executed in harmony with the Arab Media Action Plan, which aims to continue defending the legitimacy of the Palestinian cause. In a speech before the Council, Khattabi called for sustained and responsible action to secure the resilience of our “Arab Household” through diverse and advanced forms of Arab media cooperation. Besides Arab media support for the Palestinian cause, the Council discussed ways to realise the objectives of the Arab Media Strategy 2022-2026, the role of media in addressing terrorism and fanaticism, the Arab Media Chart on realising Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs 2030) and the inclusion of media as a study subject in member states’ educational systems. Names of winners in the Media Excellence Award were announced at a ceremony held on the sidelines of the 52nd session of the Arab Information Ministers Council. Sulaiman bin Ali al Maamari from Oman won the 'Best Arab Media Personality' prize for radio programmes that best serve sustainable goals. Meanwhile, Radio Sultanate of Oman’s 'Economic Forum' programme bagged the 'Best Radio Programme on Promoting Sustainable Development Efforts in the Arab Region'.

The Egyptian Supreme Council for Media Regulation also honoured Dr Mohammed bin Mubarak al Araimi, Chairman of Omani Journalists Association (OJA) with Pioneers prize along with others. The prize handing-over ceremony was held at Salaheddin Citadel in the presence of Arab Information Ministers.
