Oman Fencing Team win four medals at West Asian tourney

Muscat: Oman national fencing team bagged four medals in the opening day of the West Asian Championship, held in Jordan from August 23 to 31. The event is witnessing strong competition with the participation of 150 male and female players from eleven countries including Sultanate of Oman, Saudi Arabia, UAE, Kuwait, Qatar, the hosts Jordan, Palestine, Lebanon, Yemen and Iraq.


The West Asian Fencing Championship for age groups kicked off on Friday, hosted by the Jordanian Federation in the hall of Al Hussein Youth City.


At the U-13 category, Oman team players showed excellent performance and won victories and medals with great competence and efficiency. At the female category, the fencer Jana bint Mohammed al Sharjaiyah won the gold medal in the Epee competition while the player Salma bint Saeed al Daghishiyah claimed the silver medal in the same category. In the youth category, the player Ali bin Hamad al Busaidi won the gold medal, and he also won another gold in the Epee competition and to be crowned with two gold medals in his first international participation.


On the other hand, the Omani international referee of category “C” Omar bin Humaid al Harthy participated in the management of the championship competitions in his first external umpiring participation.
