Oman end fencing campaign with 17 medals

Oman national fencing team made a rich haul of 17 medals at the West Asian Fencing Championships hosted by the Jordanian Fencing Federation in Al Hussein Youth City in Amman from August 23 to 31.


As many as 150 men and women fencers from 11 countries including Sultanate of Oman, Saudi Arabia, UAE, Kuwait, Qatar, Palestine, Lebanon, Yemen, Syria, Iraq and hosts Jordan competed in the championship.


Oman fencers bagged 17 medals, which include nine gold, four silver and four bronze medals in age groups under-13, under-15 and under-17.


In another achievement for the Omani contingent, Oman team coach Hisham Karshoud claimed the best coach award at the event.


In the Under-13 category, Oman team players showed excellent performance and won victories and medals with great competence and efficiency.


In women's section, Jana bint Mohammed al Sharjiyah won the gold medal in the epee competition while Salma bint Saeed al Daghishiyah claimed the silver medal in the same category. Ali bin Hamad al Busaidi clinched two gold medals in his first ever international participation for Oman. Ali al Busaidi came top in youth category and epee competition.
