Seeb thrash Al Ittihad to go top of OL

MUSCAT: Seeb registered their fourth consecutive victory in the Omantel League 2021-22 with a 4-1 thrashing of Al Ittihad at Al Saada Stadium on Sunday night.


The win helped Seeb reach 44 points and take the top spot of the league table with a two-point lead over Al Nahda who have 42 points. Dhofar are third on 40 points.


With six more rounds remaining, league leaders Seeb will face Al Rustaq, Bahla, Al Suwaiq, Al Nasr, Al Musannah and Dhofar in the forthcoming rounds.


The HM Cup champions entered the fixture with a clear target to snatch the three points from the hosts. A strong start was made by Seeb strikers as Marwan al Siyabi netted the opening goal in the fifth minute of the match.


Seeb’s top-scorer Mohsin al Ghassani doubled the score when he took advantage of a defensive mistake in the 38th minute.


Post the second half with 15 minutes, Mohammed Ramadhan strengthened Seeb's lead by scoring third goal while Al Ghassani ensured Seeb’s win as he netted the fourth goal with 10 minutes to go.


In the dying minutes, Shabib Saleh scored the only goal for the hosts. After the defeat, Al Ittihad remained in the danger zone with 14 points at 13th place.


AL NASR HOLD AL NAHDA


Al Nahda were held to a 1-1 draw by Al Nasr at Al Buraimi Sports Complex. The draw put Al Nahda in the second position.


Salalah representatives Al Nasr are in fifth place with 34 points.


In another fixture, Saham managed to earn one point from Salalah giants Dhofar as the match ended at 1-1 draw. At Al Rustaq Sports Complex, coach Rasheed Jaber’s men went ahead with Hussain al Sharhi scoring in the first half but Salim Habib found the equaliser in the 40th minute. Dhofar had played out a goalless draw against Al Musannah in their last match. Saham’s situation is getting worse as they are positioned at the bottom of the table with 10 points only.


Meanwhile, Al Musannah emerged a crucial 2-1 winner over Muscat while Oman club registered a 2-0 win against Al Rustaq. Bahla spoiled Sohar’s triumph as they snatched a 2-2 draw after scoring twice in the dying minutes.


Al Suwaiq beat Nizwa 2-0 to remain at the comfortable zone at eighth place with 27 points while the hosts are still in the relegation area with 15 points at 11th place.
