MUSCAT: An utterly dominant Maharashtrian Konkani Boys won a BCL third edition (afternoon league) title here on Friday, beating FC Goa by eight wickets in the final played under floodlights at grassy ground in Maabela.

Earlier after winning the toss and putting the opposition to bat first, Konkani Boys' Pradeep Salian (3-13) bowled with his fiery pace ran through FC Goa top order before another pacer Ruban Durai (3-19) and Somnath Poojary (2-30) castled out middle and lower order. Only Umer Aslam (12 balls 21) from FC Goa could resist the high quality bowling attack to some extent to take his side to 80 which ended up not being enough for Maharashtrian Konkani Boys' power-packed batting line-up.

Needing 81 to win, Konkani Boys lost their opener Akbar Shaikh very early in chase but Wasim (37 of 28 balls) and Guru Prasad (24 not out of 21 balls) came together for a second-wicket partnership to take their side to glory. The target was chased comfortably with 2.4 overs to spare. Wasim was adjudged as the man of the final.

Wasim from Konkani Boys was also declared man of the tournament for his brilliant batting performance. Wajid Shah of FC Goa was named best bowler whereas Rehmat Ali from UGB Barka was awarded with best fielder prize of the tournament.

Mohammad Irfan, the manager of Al Danube served his presence as a chief guest for the grand finale of BCL-3, where the winners and runners-up trophies were handed by him to the respective captains. Also honourable guests Azra Aleem and Mohammad Aleem Anis congratulated all the players. The BCL committee thanked all of their sponsors, organisers, participating teams, support staff and volunteers for making this event much more successful with their efforts.

Brief scores: FC Goa 80 all out in 11.5 overs (Umer Aslam 21, Ali Hamza 12; Pradip Salian 3-13, Ruban Durai 3-19) lost to Maharashtrian Konkani Boys 83-2 in 9.2 overs (Wasim 37, Guru Prasad 24*; Wajid Shah 1-15) by eight wickets.
