MUSCAT: Salalah clinched the first edition of Oman Futsal League after thrashing Al Shabab 5-0 in the final at the Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex in Bausher on Wednesday.

In the final, Salalah dominated in both halves to score five goals past Al Shabab.

Younis al Fahdi, coach of the national futsal team, expressed his great satisfaction with the technical levels witnessed in the first edition of the futsal league.

"We hope that the next editions will witness the participation of as many players as possible and that the tournament will rise to higher levels," Al Fahdi said.

Al Fahdi said the tournament has to improve on the technical level

"On the technical level, the first version was not technically convincing, but of course this was what was expected in light of the available circumstances and the available data, being the first organisational version of the Futsal League competitions, and it is natural to witness such levels in light of the varying levels of participating clubs."

Commenting on the final match between champions Salalah and runners-up Al Shabab, Al Fahdi pointed out that there were clear technical differences between the two teams.

"For the final match, the clear technical differences between the two teams were evident due to Salalah owning some of the national futsal team players. Salalah were the favourites, so it was a one-sided match. But Al Shabab has reached the final, which is a good achievement for them."

Ahmed al Owaisi, Chairman of Al Shabab Club, expressed his satisfaction with the outcome of the final match of the first edition of the Futsal League, despite his team’s loss and its contentment with the runner-up medal.

He explained that the psychologically, the team was affected by the death of one of the relatives of three of the main players in the team, which affected the morale of the players.

"And most of Al Shabab players play for the first time in the indoor courts, which led to a large number of individual mistakes in the final match due to lack of experience."

Nasr bin Suleiman al Wahaibi, men's futsal coach, Salalah Club, said: "We achieved our goal by crowning Salalah team with the title of the first edition of the Futsal League competitions and the 5-0 result was impressive."

"I thank the Oman Football Association for organising this tournament."

Zamil al Balushi, player of Salalah Futsal Club, expressed his great happiness for winning the title which he said was due to the efforts of the players and the coach.
