The Capital Market Authority (CMA) hosted a joint meeting with the Omani Medical Association to review the implementation of the health insurance scheme for employees of the private sector, residents and visitors. More than 30 doctors from different medical specialisations took part in the review of medical coding systems and other features of the scheme.
Attendees were given on update on the progress made in the development of the underlying regulatory infrastructure, the first phase of the Dhamani platform, linkages with private health institutions, insurance companies and the regulators and facilitation of transactions.
The meeting discussed the ongoing efforts in the medical coding project governing the classification of medical terminology, medical and surgical procedures and diseases as part of a unified coding system. To this end, the CMA has signed a contract with the American Medical Association to provide CPT license for the Dhamani platform and conducted a training programme in medical coding.
Said bin Sulaiman al Saadi, Director of the Health Insurance Supervision Department, noted that the provision of health insurance coverage is a human and social necessity. The Dhamani platform, he said, will link all stakeholders, including government entities, insurance companies and health services providers to enable the exchange of information on the health insurance transactions.
The arrangement with the American Medical Association will enhance increase the level of transparency and accuracy in all the transactions, he stated.
The Authority is currently preparing the regulatory and technological infrastructure ahead of the implementation of the compulsory health insurance project for the employees of the private sector, their dependents and visitors in collaboration with the Ministry of Health, Ministry of Labour, Public Authority for Social Security and Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
