Dhofar edge Rustaq to close in on Seeb

Salalah giants Dhofar recorded their second successive victory with a narrow 1-0 win over Al Rustaq at the latter’s home in Al Rustaq Sports Complex late on Sunday in the concluding games of the 17th week of 2021-22 Omantel League. The all-important goal was scored by former national team player Qasim Said in the 11th minute of the match.


The win helped Dhofar to reach same points with league leaders Seeb but remained in second position on goal difference. Al Rustaq missed the chance to move up to fourth with the result. Al Rustaq are in fifth place with 29 points.


In another tight clash among the teams positioned in the relegation zone, Al Ittihad and Saham ended their game in a goalless draw. At Al Saada Sports Complex, both teams entered the fixture seeking for the three points to move up in the league order but the game ended with a result that did not benefited both sides.


Saham are struggling in the bottom with 8 points only and they did not taste victory since 17 weeks. Al Ittihad went slightly away from the third team in the relegation as they are placed now at 11th position with 13 points and followed by Bahla in the 12th place at 12 points.


Muscat derby clash between Muscat and Oman clubs ended again in a goalless draw at Seeb Stadium. One point was added to each club’s credit as Oman Club’s tally raised to 24 points at seventh place while Muscat are positioned in 10th place with 16 points.


After the conclusion of the 17th week games, Seeb led the points table with 35 points and by goal difference over Dhofar and third-placed Al Nahda who have the same points. The fourth placed team is Al Nasr with 30 points. Bahla, Nizwa and Saham are competing in the relegation zone with 12, 11 and 8 points respectively.


The next round of matches will be played on Friday.
