Seeb thrash Sidab, Dhofar edge Al Oruba

Muscat: Seeb, Al Suwaiq, Al Nasr, Al Rustaq, Dhofar, Nizwa, Sur and Fanja advanced and secured spots to quarterfinals of the 2021/2022 of HM Football Cup.


The draw of the last eight round will take place on Sunday at Seeb Stadium at 13:00.


Seeb thrashed the neighbors Ahli Sidab 8-0 to book ticket for the last-eight in style. With the huge triumph, Seeb sent a strong message to all the teams on chasing for their fourth title after they won the last cup in 1998.


Sultanate of Oman’s national football player, Abdulaziz al Maqbali netted three goals (hat-trick), Marwan Taeeb (two goals) and one goal by Mohsin al Ghassani, Eid al Farsi and Amjad al Harthi.


Salalah giants Dhofar, moved to the next stage of the coveted cup competition as they stunned four-times winner Al Oruba 4-3 at Al Saada Stadium.


Omar al Malki was the star in Dhofar as as he showed a top performance and scored all the winner’s goals.


Despite guests leading in first half by 2-1, the hosts heroes managed to bounce back strongly in the second half and registered the victory to advance in quarterfinal.



In other fixtures, Al Suwaiq crashed out Oman club 2-1 at the Seeb Sports Stadium. Essam al Subhi and former Sultanate of Oman team captain Ahmed Kanu netted the hosts goals which confirmed runner up attendance in the next round of the top domestic competition.


Al Nasr scraped past fighting Al Nahdha 1-0 at the former’s home in Al Buraimi Sports Complex. Said al Ruzaiqi scored the winner after the perfect assistance from Saad Suhail.


The four-times winner, Sur, upset Bahla 4-3 in penalties as the regulation time ended in 1-1 draw at Sur Sports Complex.


At Al Rustaq Sports Complex, Rustaq players managed to book their ticket in the last-eight round as they won the neighbours Al Mussanah 6-5 in penalties.


The regulation and extra times ended in a 1-1 draw. Al Mussanah’s player Hamood al Saadi received a red card in the second extra half. The Southern Batinah team will be chasing up for the first title in this season.


Nizwa knocked out two times winner Saham in 4-3 penalties as the regulation time finished in a goalless draw at Nizwa Sports Complex.


The nine times winner, Fanja, was the last team that joined to the quarterfinal of the prestigious competition after edging Salalah 7-8 in penalties as the regulation time ended in a goalless draw.
