Substantial drop in Covid-19 deaths, cases: MoH

Muscat: With the vaccination drive getting momentum and new regulations announced last week by the Supreme Committee to be implemented ahead of the Eid holidays in the Sultanate, a substantial drop in the covid related mortality figures and cases since July 4 is a sign of relief.


The Ministry of Health (MoH) on Monday reported 1,167 new cases and 12 deaths. The number of sick patients or active cases also dropped to 23,807 (8.7 percent) from over 30,000 and 10 percent on July 4.



The recovery rate also significantly improved over the last few weeks.



​​The total number of recoveries is 259,550, while the recovery rate is 90.7 percent.


The total number of cases registered in the Sultanate has now reached 286,072, including 3,435 deaths.


According to MoH, 119 new patients were admitted to hospitals in the last 24 hours, bringing the total number of inpatients to 1,341, including 477 in intensive care units.


However, the latest figures from the Sultan Qaboos University Hospital in Muscat indicated that the bed occupancy rates are still over 100 percent though there is a drop in the number of new inpatients, including those in ICUs.


The total number of people vaccinated with anti-Covid vaccines in the Sultanate since the beginning of the national campaign has reached 1,359,65, which is 38 percent of the total target groups.


The Ministry of Health (MoH) said it is continuing a campaign to vaccinate the target group with vaccines in all governorates of the Sultanate. which will be between 5 pm and 4 am, will continue until July 31 . There will be a full lockdown during three days of Eid.


To tackle the further spread of the covid-19 virus, the Supreme Committee has extended lockdown by three hours from July 16 to prevent people from gathering in large numbers.
