The Oman Society for Astronomy and Space (falakoman) said that it has been closely following the discussions surrounding the light phenomenon observed in the skies over the Sultanate of Oman on Sunday evening, around 7 pm.
Initial observations suggest it may be a fireball—a highly luminous meteor resulting from a space object entering the atmosphere at high speed, causing it to glow and leave a bright light trail.
The Falakoman clarified that the appearance of this phenomenon does not necessarily indicate a meteorite impact on Earth's surface, and it may be accompanied by a natural sonic boom produced by shockwaves as the object passes through the atmosphere.
The Society said the importance of exercising caution in sharing information and avoiding interpretations not based on scientific evidence.
