YEREVAN: The Sultanate of Oman, represented by the Environment Authority, participated in the High-Level Ministerial Segment of the 17th Conference of the Parties to the UN Convention on Biological Diversity (COP17), hosted by the Republic of Armenia.
The event was participated by several ministers, heads of delegations, and representatives of countries and international organisations concerned with biodiversity protection and the sustainability of natural resources.
Eng Sulaiman bin Nasser al Akhzami, Vice-Chairman of the Environment Authority, delivered the Sultanate of Oman's statement during the High-Level Ministerial Segment, in which he affirmed that conserving biodiversity represents a shared international responsibility and a fundamental pillar for ecosystem sustainability and achieving sustainable development. He noted that the challenge facing the international community is not limited to agreeing on environmental goals and ambitions, but rather lies in the ability to translate those commitments into practical and tangible results that contribute to protecting nature and conserving its resources for future generations.
He explained that the Sultanate of Oman, stemming from the targets of Oman Vision 2040, continues its national efforts to protect wildlife and natural habitats, manage natural reserves, conserve terrestrial and marine ecosystems, and enhance the optimal and sustainable use of natural resources, thereby achieving a balance between economic and social development requirements and the preservation of natural capital. — ONA
