Salalah: Environment Authority launches ‘Environmental Protectors’ initiative

SALALAH: The Environment Authority in Dhofar Governorate launched the "Environmental Protectors" initiative on Wednesday, coinciding with the start of the Khareef Dhofar season. The two-month campaign aims to bolster environmental protection efforts and preserve the natural landmarks that attract large numbers of visitors during this period.

Adnan bin Ahmed Ghawas, Head of the Environmental Inspection and Emergency Department at the Environment Authority in Dhofar, who is supervising the initiative, stated that the campaign focuses on increasing field presence across tourist sites, natural landmarks and green spaces.

He noted that the initiative seeks to cover areas significantly impacted by the Khareef season, with the objective of curbing negative practices and behaviors that could harm the environment, vegetation and wildlife, while also ensuring greater compliance with environmental regulations.

He added ground teams handle the implementation of monitoring, follow-up, and environmental awareness efforts, deal with reports and fines and provide instructions regarding on the importance of preserving the cleanliness of natural sites and protecting vegetation cover with the aim of enhancing environmental sustainability and maintaining natural heritage for which Dhofar Governorate is distinguished.

He also emphasised that implementing ‘Environmental Protectors’ emerges as part of the Environmental Authority’s to achieve balance between stimulating tourism during ‘Khareef’ season and preserving natural resources through integrating all related government roles, which ensures providing sustainable and safe environment for the residents and the visitors of the governorate.
