MUSCAT, OCT 26

Oman’s Paralympic delegation received a welcome from the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth (MoCSY) following its return from the Aichi-Nagoya 2026 Asian Para Games, where Rawan al Hasani won bronze and four athletes recorded personal bests.

Al Hasani provided the highlight of Oman’s campaign, claiming bronze in the women’s T53 wheelchair 100 metres in 22.49 seconds on her Asian Para Games debut.

The reception was attended by Dr Amer bin Humaid al Touqi, Director of the Sports Bodies Department; Dr Mansour bin Sultan al Touqi, Chairman of the Oman Paralympic Committee; and Ismail bin Issa al Kindi, High Performance Supervisor for the promising athletes support programme.

Dr Amer al Touqi said the results would help guide the assessment of athletes’ performances and the development of future preparation programmes. Al Hasani’s medal and the personal bests achieved by other squad members, he added, offered encouraging foundations for further progress.

He stressed the importance of continued support for emerging talent and providing opportunities to compete internationally, allowing athletes to develop their experience and test themselves against stronger opposition.

Dr Mansour al Touqi described Al Hasani’s achievement as a valuable addition to the accomplishments of Omani women and the country’s para sport programme. He emphasised the need to sustain her development while reviewing the performances of the remaining athletes and identifying their technical and training requirements.

Four personal bests added to the positives from Oman’s campaign. Mutasim al Saadi threw 6.04 metres in the men’s F53 shot put, while Iman al Shamsi improved her mark to 14.10 metres in the women’s F34 javelin.

Talib al Balushi recorded 27.03 metres in the men’s F56 javelin, and Mohammed al Qasmi achieved 23.54 metres in the men’s F32 club throw.

Elsewhere, Othman al Habsi finished fourth in the T12 long jump with 5.48 metres and fifth in the 400 metres in 57.22 seconds. Taha al Harrasi placed fifth in the T36 long jump with 5.25 metres, while Qusay al Rawahi took seventh in the T13 long jump with 5.36 metres.

Muhanna Awlad Thani finished fifth in the F33 shot put with 7.74 metres. Fawzi al Hubaishi placed sixth in the F54 javelin with 18.56 metres before finishing tenth in the shot put with 5.22 metres.

Al Saadi also took seventh in the F53 javelin with 17.70 metres, while Al Shamsi finished sixth in the F34 shot put with 5.62 metres.

In handcycling, Sami al Sulaimi concluded his road race campaign in fourth place.

The delegation’s return shifts attention towards reviewing the campaign and planning the next stage of preparation. Continued coordination between the ministry, the Oman Paralympic Committee and the promising athletes support programme will focus on improving training, widening access to international competition and developing more athletes capable of challenging for leading positions.
