MUSCAT: Muscat and Oman Club confirmed their places in the second round of the 2026-27 Oman Youth Handball League as the first round concluded on Friday, with several teams recording convincing victories in the final round of group-stage action.

Defending champions Muscat had already secured qualification from Group One, while Oman Club sealed their place in the next stage after collecting eight points to finish top of Group Two. Both sides will now turn their attention to the next round, where the competition is expected to intensify.

Oman Club produced one of the standout performances of the final round, defeating Majees 28-12 to underline their strength and consolidate their position at the top of Group Two.

Seeb also impressed with a commanding 31-9 victory over Al Rustaq in another Group Two encounter. Their emphatic win highlighted their attacking prowess and ability to dominate proceedings.

Al Khabourah registered another important victory, overcoming Saham 31-22 to round off the first stage on a positive note.

NIZWA DOMINATE MASIRAH

In Group One, Nizwa cruised to a 48-18 victory over Masirah, while Al Amerat defeated Ibri 31-21 to conclude the first round with a win.

Muscat had entered the final round assured of qualification after collecting eight points to lead Group One. The defending champions will now focus on preparing for the next stage, where consistency and further improvement will be crucial to their title defence.

Ahmed al Jasasi, Muscat Handball Team Manager, said qualification was an important step towards achieving the club's objectives for the season but stressed the need to maintain focus.

“We are pleased to have secured qualification for the second round, but we understand that the competition will become more difficult from this point onwards. Our aim is to continue performing at the level expected of Muscat, while improving the players' overall performance and strengthening their understanding on court. We will also use the lessons from our previous matches to address areas that need improvement. We have confidence in the players and hope to continue our campaign strongly and compete for the title,” he said.

Under the competition regulations, the top two teams from each group advance to the second round. The Group One winners will face the Group Two runners-up in a two-match tie, while the Group Two winners will take on the Group One runners-up in the other tie.

The winners of the two ties will advance to the final to determine the 2026-27 champions, while the losing teams will meet to decide third and fourth place.
