MUSCAT: Muscat have made a strong start to their title defence in the 2026-27 Oman Junior Handball League, securing their third consecutive victory to move clear at the top of Group A with six points.
The defending champions defeated Al Ittihad 40-18 in their third-round match at Seeb Sports Hall, producing another commanding performance to maintain their unbeaten start to the competition.
Muscat controlled the match from the opening minutes, combining disciplined defensive organisation with effective attacking play. Their ability to create and convert scoring opportunities allowed them to establish a comfortable advantage, and they went into half-time with a 21-9 lead.
The champions continued to dominate after the break despite Al Ittihad's attempts to reduce the deficit. Muscat remained focused and continued to extend their advantage through quick attacking transitions and efficient finishing before securing a 40-18 victory at the final whistle.
Muscat had already announced their intentions in the opening round with a convincing 38-16 victory over Ibri. The champions were in control from the start, taking a 24-6 lead into half-time before completing a comfortable victory.
EARLY ADVANTAGE
They followed that performance with an even bigger win in the second round, defeating Masirah 53-12 to make it three wins from three matches. The results have given Muscat an early advantage in their bid to retain the title for a fourth consecutive season.
Nizwa also made a positive start to their Group A campaign, defeating Al Ittihad 27-20 in the opening round. They led 15-9 at half-time and maintained their advantage through the second half to collect their first two points.
Al Amerat, meanwhile, marked their first appearance in the junior league with an impressive 32-15 victory over Masirah. They took an 18-4 lead into the interval before completing a convincing opening-round success.
Group B also produced several high-scoring encounters in the opening round. Seeb recorded the biggest victory of the round, defeating Saham 47-9, while Al Khabourah beat Majees 34-20. Oman Club also made an impressive start, overcoming Al Rustaq 42-6.
The second round saw Majees defeat Saham 22-16, while Al Khabourah continued their positive start with a 24-13 victory over Al Rustaq. Oman Club also claimed another important result, beating Seeb 35-21.
The third round will continue on October 9 with further fixtures in both groups. In Group A, leaders Muscat will face Al Amerat at 4 pm at the Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex auxiliary hall in Bausher. Masirah will meet Al Ittihad at 6 pm at the same venue, while Nizwa will take on Ibri at 4 pm at Sohar Sports Complex.
Group B will also see several fixtures, including Seeb against Majees at 4 pm at Sohar Sports Complex and Saham against Al Rustaq at 4 pm at Al Khabourah Sports Hall.
With the opening rounds producing several convincing victories, the competition is already developing into a closely contested battle for places in the second stage, while Muscat's perfect start has placed the defending champions in an early position of strength.
