MOSCOW: Oman concluded its participation with an official pavilion at the Moscow International Book Fair, held at the Gostiny Dvor Centre from September 2 to 6, with the participation of more than 300 publishing houses from Russia and other countries and a programme featuring more than 400 cultural and professional events.
The Omani pavilion attracted visitors from various segments of Russian society, including researchers, students, tourists and those interested in Oman. Visitors explored Omani publications and learned about Oman’s culture, history, national identity and cultural heritage.
Oman’s participation in the fair was the first of its kind and formed part of efforts to strengthen the country’s cultural presence abroad, promote Omani intellectual and cultural production, and create new opportunities for cooperation with cultural and academic institutions, publishers and researchers.
The pavilion featured sections representing the Ministry of Information, Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth, Ministry of Heritage and Tourism, and Sultan Qaboos University. The participating institutions showcased a diverse selection of publications reflecting Oman’s cultural, scientific and heritage achievements.
The pavilion also attracted researchers and students specialising in Arabic language and Oriental studies, as well as visitors interested in Oman’s maritime history, historical presence in Zanzibar and Africa, and longstanding trade relations with Asian countries. Some visitors who had previously travelled to Oman also expressed interest in exploring Omani publications on culture, history and scientific life.
The Moscow International Book Fair, which featured China as the guest of honour, included a wide-ranging cultural and professional programme addressing the future of books, publishing, literature, translation, culture and reading, as well as transformations in the content industry driven by technological developments. - ONA
