MUSCAT: Oman Electricity Transmission Company (OETC) recently concluded its Summer Internship Program, reaffirming its commitment to investing in promising national talent and empowering young people to gain practical experience and professional skills. The program also provided participants with an opportunity to bridge the gap between academic knowledge and its practical application in a real-world work environment.
Held over a period of two months, from June through August, the program brought together 23 students, serving as a platform for them to gain first-hand exposure to OETC’s work environment and develop a deeper understanding of the nature of the Company’s operations and professional practices across various fields. Participants also engaged in a range of tasks and activities that contributed to developing their skills and strengthening their practical knowledge and experience, in line with their academic disciplines and areas of interest.
The program featured a range of training and interactive activities, as well as field visits aimed at developing students’ technical and interpersonal skills besides enhancing their capabilities in communication and teamwork. It also emphasized commitment, compliance and adherence to best practices. As part of the program, a dialogue session was held bringing together the trainees and specialists from various fields. The session provided an opportunity to reflect on their training experiences, discuss the key knowledge and skills they gained, and share the challenges they encountered. The trainees also presented the work and projects they contributed to across various technical and administrative departments, while sharing their ideas and recommendations for further development.
In this regard, Mr. Ishaq Al Harrasi, Acting General Manager of Human Resources at OETC, reaffirmed the Company’s commitment to investing in young people, developing their capabilities, building national competencies and enhancing their readiness for the job market. He also highlighted OETC’s focus on providing high-quality training experience that enables students to explore the workplace and gain a better understanding of its requirements, contributing to their preparation for their future professional careers.
Al Harrasi added: “The Summer Internship Program represents an investment in people before it is an investment in skills. By providing students with the opportunity to gain practical experience in the real world, we give them the space to learn, discover their capabilities and transform knowledge into tangible experience. We believe that every experience students gain today will lay the foundation for greater ambitions tomorrow. Through such programs, we seek to contribute to developing a generation of national talent capable of advancing Oman’s development journey and shaping an ambitious future in line with the objectives of Oman Vision 2040.”
OETC is responsible for the transmission network and load dispatch across the national grid, covering all governorates of the Sultanate of Oman. The company also manages interconnections with the GCC Interconnection Grid at 220 kV and operates under the Nama Group framework to support Oman’s vision of building a secure, reliable, and sustainable electricity ecosystem.
