There was something familiar in the air at Muscat Grand Mall over the weekend, the sound of Filipino songs drifting through the venue, the aroma of home cooking, bursts of laughter and the unmistakable warmth of a community coming together.
For three days, from August 27 to 29, the Grand Filipino Fiesta Bazaar 2026 transformed the mall into a colourful celebration of Filipino culture, bringing together Filipinos, Omanis and visitors through food, music, dance and shared moments of joy.
Organised by Amplify Media & Advertising, the fiesta was more than a showcase of traditions. For many Filipinos living far from home, it was a chance to reconnect with a familiar part of themselves, while giving Omanis and other visitors an invitation to experience the warmth of Filipino culture.
The first day, “Parangal at Pagdiriwang” (Honour and Celebration), set the tone. The Filipino and Omani national anthems opened the ceremony, followed by prayer and messages from Claudia Halaby of Amplify Media & Advertising, Dr Jackie Orlanes of the Filipino Community Social Club (FILCOSOC) and Labour Attaché Alice Visperas.
Halaby described the fiesta as a celebration of Filipino culture, talent, food, music, family and community, while highlighting its role in strengthening the friendship between the Philippines and Oman.
Dr Orlanes spoke proudly of the Philippines’ rich heritage and strong community values, expressing hope that gatherings such as the fiesta would continue to give Filipinos opportunities to share their traditions and support one another.
Visperas centred her message on Bayanihan, the Filipino spirit of helping and standing beside one another. She spoke of how Filipinos living far from home can build a new family through a community that celebrates its successes and offers support in difficult times.
When an Igorot cultural dance took to the stage, colourful costumes and traditional movements drew the audience in, followed by warm applause. The Little Miss Philippines finalists added to the celebration before DX Band opened the entertainment with an Aegis medley, followed by the New Generation Movers and TNT Grand Champion 2025 Season 1 Joane J. Cheers and applause filled the mall as the performances unfolded.
By the second day, “Araw ng Kultura at Musika” (Day of Culture and Music), the fiesta had found its rhythm. OPM music accompanied visitors around the bazaar, while children’s games brought families together.
Members of the Filipino Performing Artists Club in Oman (FIPACO), alongside solo performers and musicians, shared their talents, while an open-mic session gave fellow Filipinos, or kababayans, their own moment in the spotlight. The graceful Cariñosa dance by ALAB drew applause, while Vamoz Band added another wave of energy before the night ended with community Zumba and dancing.
The final day, “Bayanihan” (Community Spirit and Collective Cooperation), placed family and togetherness at its centre. Children enjoyed games and face painting while an Arabic traditional band performed nearby, creating a fitting meeting of Omani and Filipino musical traditions.
The afternoon unfolded through fashion, music and cultural performances before the grand raffle and finale. Filipino artists returned to the stage for a final celebration, bringing the three-day gathering to a spirited close with confetti.
For Omani visitor Ahmed al Farsi, the fiesta felt “authentic yet welcoming to everyone”, capturing the warmth and hospitality of Filipino culture while showcasing its distinctive traditions and cuisine.
Perhaps that is what made the fiesta resonate beyond the Filipino community. It did not ask visitors simply to observe another culture. It invited them to sit, listen, taste, dance and celebrate alongside it.
In the spirit of Bayanihan, the fiesta became a vivid reminder that culture travels well, especially when it travels through music, food, friendship and an open door.
