The Oman Football Association (OFA), in collaboration with Fifa, began a Capacity-Building Workshop for Women Football Administrators in Muscat, as part of Fifa’s Women’s Development Programme, with the participation of 45 women representing a range of sports and educational institutions. The opening session of the three-day workshop on Wednesday was held under the auspices of Mohammed al Yahmadi, Executive Director of OFA, in the presence of Hajer al Muzayni, Board member of the OFA, alongside representatives and experts from Fifa, and participants from the football and sports sectors.
The workshop, held under the supervision of the OFA Women’s Football Committee, aims to strengthen the skills and knowledge of women working or seeking to work in the administrative and organisational fields of football, while creating new pathways for greater female participation in the development of the game.
The theoretical and practical programme is being delivered by experienced Fifa experts, providing participants with access to international expertise and best practices in football administration and the development of women’s football. The participants include representatives from universities and colleges, physical education teachers and students, women administrators from football clubs, as well as volunteers with experience and interest in sports event management. The diverse participation reflects the programme’s objective of expanding the pool of qualified women capable of contributing to the football ecosystem.
DEVELOPING WOMEN FOOTBALL LEADERS
The workshop, which will conclude on Friday, covers a wide range of areas, including sports administration, leadership, communication, project management, financial planning, event organisation, match and tournament operations, integrity and good governance, safeguarding, marketing, teamwork, problem-solving and decision-making. The programme also focuses on helping participants understand the professional opportunities available within football, including roles with clubs, competitions, national teams, events and women’s football development programmes.
Fifa’s programme is designed to support people working on the ground by providing them with the knowledge and practical training required to perform their day-to-day responsibilities more effectively. The programme has three main objectives, including: building the capacity of women’s football staff within member associations and their respective regions; strengthening the global network of women’s football contributors off the pitch; and supporting the implementation of national associations’ women’s football strategies.
The programme falls within the wider efforts of OFA to build capacity at member-association level and support the development of women’s football in Oman and the region. Also, the programme assists in developing the people working behind the scenes, which is essential for building a strong and sustainable football system.
