GENEVA: The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, represented by the Diplomatic Academy, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) to enhance cooperation in diplomatic capacity building.

The agreement was signed at the headquarters of the Permanent Mission of Oman in Geneva.

On behalf of Oman, it was signed by Ambassador Idris bin Abdulrahman al Khanjari, Permanent Representative of Oman to the United Nations and international organisations in Geneva. On behalf of UNITAR, it was signed by Michelle Giles-McDonough, Assistant Secretary-General of the United Nations and Executive Director of UNITAR.

The MoU aims to strengthen partnership between the two sides by moving beyond general cooperation towards the implementation of practical, high-impact training programmes designed to develop national competencies in diplomatic and multilateral work.

It reflects a shared commitment to building a sustainable, long-term partnership that enhances multilateral engagement and supports global efforts in addressing complex international challenges.

UNITAR, a specialised agency of the United Nations system established in Geneva in 1965, plays a key role in strengthening institutional and human capacities at the global level.

The institute provides advanced training and research programmes for policymakers, government officials, and professionals — particularly from developing countries. – ONA
