As the Khareef season gradually draws to a close, Dhofar is preparing to enter another distinctive period in its tourism calendar — the Sarb season.
Typically associated with September and October, Sarb follows the retreat of the mist and drizzle that define the monsoon months. Yet the landscape does not immediately lose its green character. Mountains, valleys and plains remain lush, while clearer skies, moderate temperatures and calmer seas create favourable conditions for outdoor activities and nature-based tourism.
For residents and visitors, the season offers a different way to experience Dhofar, moving beyond the familiar image of mist-covered mountains and highlighting the governorate’s potential as a year-round destination.
Unlike Khareef, when heavy cloud and limited visibility often dominate the landscape, Sarb brings clearer views of Dhofar’s mountains, valleys and open plains. The lingering greenery against brighter skies creates a distinct setting for hiking, camping, photography, family outings and coastal excursions.
The transition also provides an opportunity to explore popular natural attractions at a quieter pace. With visitor numbers easing after the peak Khareef period, travellers can enjoy greater tranquillity while experiencing the landscape in a different season.
For repeat visitors, this seasonal change can itself become an attraction. Those familiar with Dhofar during the misty months can return to see its mountains and plains under clearer skies, while enjoying more favourable conditions for exploring outdoor destinations.
