MUSCAT: Rainfall of varying intensities associated with active winds and hail was reported in several governorates, on Tuesday. The Hajar Mountains and surrounding areas witnessed thundershowers causing overflow of wadis.
The Wilayat of Al Hamra in Al Dakhiliyah Governorate experienced thundershowers of varying intensity concentrated in the mountainous areas and the centre of the wilayat. A number of villages in the wilayats of Al Jabal Al Akhdhar and Nizwa also experienced thundershowers. The Wilayat of Bahla witnessed moderate to heavy rainfall mainly in the villages of Al Fath and Basya and surrounding areas.
The Wilayat of Ibri in Al Dhahirah Governorate experienced rainfall of varying intensities associated with hail mostly in the villages of Wadi Al Hajar, Al Rassa, Al Duraiz, Al Aridh, and Muqniyat. Rain was also reported in Wadi Al Ajam in the Al Hawmaniyah causing several wadis to overflow. Heavy rains fell in the Wilayat of Yanqul mainly in the areas of Al Shuja and Al Mari and Qumayrah village in the Wilayat of Dhank.
The Wilayat of Mahadha in Al Buraimi Governorate witnessed rainfall of varying intensities associated with hail particularly in Humaydah and Sharm causing flash floods. The Al Dahah area in the north also experienced heavy rain and hail.
Light rain fell on the Al Sahtan Mountains in the Wilayat of Al Rustaq in Al Batinah South Governorate. Al Wusta Governorate saw rainy weather and rainfall in parts of the Wilayat of Haima.
Between August 22 and 24, the Wilayat of Al Hamra recorded the highest rainfall amount with 28 millimetres, the wilayats of Al Buraimi, Ibri and Nizwa reported 19mm of rainfall, the Wilayat of Salalah (14 mm), the Wilayat of Taqah (9mm), the Wilayat of Haima (8mm), the wilayats of Samayil and Dima W'attayeen (7mm), according to Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources.
The figures highlighted the local summer rainfall activity, with the highest accumulations concentrated in areas affected by convective cloud development. In a weather bulletin posted by Oman Meteorology Office on Tuesday, it said thunderstorms and strong downdraft winds are predicted across several parts of the Sultanate of Oman.
