

MUSCAT, AUGUST 21
Thundershowers struck several governorates across the Sultanate of Oman on Friday, concentrating over parts of the Al Hajar Mountains. The weather system was accompanied by active downdraft winds, hail in multiple locations, and heavy runoff that triggered the flow of several wadis and flash floods.
In Al Buraimi Governorate, varying intensities of rain hit the Sa'a area in the Wilayat of Al Buraimi, particularly along the Sa'a-Hafit road. The Sharm area in the Wilayat of Mahadha experienced mixed heavy rainfall, while Al Sumaini in the north of the wilayat saw heavy rain accompanied by hail.
In Al Dhahirah Governorate, the Wilayat of Ibri witnessed rainfall ranging from moderate to heavy, covering Jabal Al Sarat and Maqniyat. The downpours concentrated on the villages of Al Najeed, Dhahir Al Fawaris, Kuhnat, Al Aridh, and eastern areas of the wilayat.
The Al Houmaniyah-Maskan road experienced heavy rains with hail, causing flash floods across valleys and streams. In the Wilayat of Yanqul, heavy downpours lashed the Al Raki mountains and the Yanqul-Al Waqbah road, concentrating on Al Masarrat, Al Ma'aidan, and the village of Saye, which led to significant overflowing of the Al Masarrat and Al Ma'aidan wadis. The Qumayrah area in the Wilayat of Dhank also recorded varying rainfall.
In Al Dakhiliyah Governorate, rainfall of varying intensity covered the mountains of the Wilayat of Al Hamra. Rain was also reported in the northwestern parts of the Wilayat of Al Jabal Al Akhdhar, leading to the flow of one of the tributaries of Wadi Al Hijri.
Meanwhile, Naqsi village in the Wilayat of Bidbid experienced heavy rain accompanied by hail. In Al Sharqiyah North Governorate, varying downpours fell on the village of Ba'ad in the Wilayat of Al Mudhaibi, alongside rainfall across the Wilayat of Dima W'attayeen.
In Al Batinah South Governorate, Wadi Bani Ghafir in the Wilayat of Al Rustaq recorded varying downpours that turned heavy over several villages, accompanied by active downdrafts and hail. Rain also lashed Wadi Al Sahtan and Wadi Bani Kharous in the Wilayat of Al Awabi, causing Wadi Bani Kharous to overflow.
According to official data released by the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources, Al Hamra, Dima W'attayeen and Al Jabal Al Akhdhar received the maximum rainfall in the last two days.
