MUSCAT, AUGUST 20
The Women’s Karting Championship gets underway on Thursday as part of the second edition of Active Oman Challenge, with more than 225 participants registered for the competition at Active Oman.
The strong turnout reflects growing interest among women in motorsport in the Sultanate of Oman, with the championship providing an opportunity for participants to experience competitive karting in an organised sporting environment.
The championship is open to participants aged between 16 and 30 and welcomes different levels of experience, including amateurs. The format allows newcomers to experience karting in a competitive setting while also allowing participants with previous experience to further develop their skills.
Registration attracted more than 225 participants, underlining the increasing demand among women and girls for sporting activities that combine competition, entertainment and new experiences. The turnout also highlights the importance of providing specialised events that cater to different interests and offer women wider opportunities to participate in sport.
The championship forms part of Active Oman Challenge 2, which is being held from August 8 to 22 at Active Oman. The wider sports and entertainment event features a variety of competitions and activities, including go-karting, bowling, shooting, virtual golf, billiards, chess, e-gaming and other recreational competitions.
The idea behind introducing a dedicated women’s karting competition stems from efforts to create greater opportunities for women to participate in sports and recreational activities where female participation has traditionally been relatively limited.
Growing interest in karting among women encouraged organisers to include a dedicated competition in the second edition of Active Oman Challenge, offering participants a platform to test their abilities, compete against one another and gain first-hand experience of motorsport.
Beyond the competitive element, the championship aims to encourage women to explore new sporting disciplines, identify emerging female karting talent and promote a culture of active participation and healthy competition. It could also contribute to building sustained interest in motorsport among women and pave the way for greater female involvement in the discipline in the coming years.
The championship comes amid continued growth in women’s sport in Oman, with an increasing variety of events and initiatives providing women and girls with opportunities to become involved in different sporting disciplines.
Sports and recreational initiatives have become an important platform for encouraging participation, discovering new interests and developing talent. The Women’s Karting Championship is expected to feature competitive racing between participants of varying levels of experience, while providing amateur drivers with an opportunity to discover karting in a structured environment.
Through such events, Active Oman seeks to encourage wider participation in sport and promote activities that combine physical engagement, entertainment and challenge, while creating new opportunities for women to develop their skills and explore their potential in motorsport.
