Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry (OCCI) branch in Al Wusta Governorate seeks to stimulate economic, investment and commercial activity through a set of programmes and initiatives supporting business owners and investors, as well as working to facilitate the investment climate in the governorate.
Active commercial registrations in the governorate are witnessing rapid growth amidst strong demand from business owners, small and medium enterprise (SME) owners and entrepreneurs to establish promising investment projects.
Abdulrahim bin Zayed al Junaibi, Director of the OCCI branch in Al Wusta Governorate, explained to ONA that the number of commercial registrations up to the beginning of the current year reached nearly 7,000 commercial registrations, amidst high demand from investors and those wishing to establish promising commercial projects.
He noted that this reflects continuous growth in economic activity in the governorate and confirms the growing confidence of investors and business owners in the promising investment opportunities provided by the governorate across various sectors.
Al Junaibi said that the OCCI branch in Al Wusta Governorate is keen on empowering the private sector and enhancing the business environment by implementing several qualitative initiatives and programmes.
Most notable among these is organising the Duqm Forum, which is dedicated in each edition to a different economic sector, such as smart cities and the blue economy, with the participation of experts and specialists from within the Sultanate of Oman and abroad, aiming to transfer knowledge and open new horizons for business owners.
He pointed out that the branch organised the Entrepreneurship Forum, which has reached its third edition and addressed modern topics such as artificial intelligence, digital transformation, and innovation, while providing an opportunity for entrepreneurs and innovators to showcase their projects and innovations and connecting them with supporting entities.
The branch also organised the Investment Opportunities Forum in Al Wusta Governorate in cooperation with government entities, alongside holding periodic meetings with business owners to identify the challenges facing them and follow up on them with competent authorities to find appropriate solutions.
In addition, the branch executed numerous workshops and training programmes in the fields of marketing, tourism and industrial entrepreneurship and supporting student companies, contributing to developing entrepreneurs’ capabilities and stimulating a culture of innovation.
Regarding the delegations and visits organised by the branch, Abdulrahim al Junaibi stressed that the branch pays great attention to strengthening economic relations and opening new markets for business owners.
It organised visits for a number of trade delegations, the most recent of which was to the Republic of Tanzania, aiming to examine economic experiences in the logistics, industrial and agricultural sectors; and promote the investment opportunities offered by the Special Economic Zone at Duqm.
The branch also organised numerous visits to government institutions and companies operating in the governorate to discuss the needs of the private sector and enhance cooperation opportunities.
During the coming period, it intends to undertake visits to Dhofar and Al Batinah North Governorates to learn about industrial and logistical experiences and visit factories and ports, as well as introduce the investment opportunities enjoyed by Al Wusta Governorate.
Regarding localised projects in the governorate, Al Junaibi pointed out that Al Wusta Governorate is witnessing growing growth in localised projects, benefitting from the economic capabilities it possesses — foremost among which is the Special Economic Zone at Duqm — alongside projects in the logistics, industrial, fisheries, tourism and agricultural sectors. — ONA
