Oman's national youth handball team revived their hopes of reaching the next stage of the 19th Asian Men's Youth Handball Championship after defeating Hong Kong 25-21 on Thursday in Juzhou, China.
The victory came after Oman had opened their campaign with a defeat to Saudi Arabia, keeping their qualification hopes for the 2027 IHF Men's Youth World Championship in North Macedonia alive.
Oman trailed 12-10 at halftime before producing an impressive second-half comeback to take control of the match, with Said al Hasni earning the Player of the Match award following a standout performance.
The Omani side showed greater defensive organisation and attacking efficiency after the break, overturning the deficit through disciplined teamwork and effective tactical adjustments. Officials and the coaching staff praised the players' determination and ability to respond under pressure, while describing the victory as a significant boost ahead of the decisive group-stage clash against hosts China.
The result placed Oman back in contention for qualification, with the upcoming match expected to play a crucial role in determining their chances of progressing to the next round.
