Explosions were heard over Qatar's capital on Sunday, AFP journalists reported, after the United States struck Iran over a vessel coming under attack in the Strait of Hormuz.
AFP correspondents saw interceptions in the sky above Doha, a key mediator between Washington and Tehran, as residents received messages on their phones urging them to "remain in their homes in their homes and safe places".
Qatar's Ministry of Interior confirmed that three people, including a child, were injured by shrapnel from the interception operations. The Ministry stated that the injured are receiving the necessary medical care.
In a statement issued today, the Ministry said: “As part of the ongoing monitoring of developments on the ground, the Ministry of Interior confirms that security forces and civil defense teams have initiated procedures in accordance with the approved response plans following the Iranian attacks. Based on reports received and field findings, the Ministry confirms three injuries, including a child, resulting from shrapnel from the interception operations. The injured are receiving the necessary medical care.”
The Ministry clarified that the national alert and warning procedures are activated only when there is a need to take additional and urgent precautionary measures to ensure public safety.
