BAHLA: The Wilayat of Bahla hosted an Open Day to mark the International Year of Women Farmers 2026, highlighting the contributions of rural women to agriculture, animal production, and sustainable food development.

The event was organised by the Department of Agricultural and Animal Research in Al Dakhiliyah Governorate in cooperation with the Directorate-General of Agricultural Wealth and Water Resources, Al Zahra College for Women, and with strategic participation from the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO).

The programme focused on strengthening collaboration between academic institutions, research bodies, and rural communities to support food sustainability and emerging agricultural enterprises.

Eng Shatha bint Khamis al Aufi, an animal production researcher, said the celebration reflects efforts to empower women as key partners in national development and recognise the important role of female farmers in enhancing food security.

She highlighted the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources’ initiatives to support and train rural women in line with the goals of Oman Vision 2040.

The event included a development exhibition showcasing innovations and products created by rural women in Al Dakhiliyah Governorate, along with a presentation by FAO representative Dr Baligha Ali Takna on global efforts to empower women in food production.

Participants also shared success stories of Omani women managing agricultural projects and overcoming challenges, while workshops focused on marketing home-based and small businesses.

The event concluded with the honouring of participating institutions and organisations by Dr Musallam bin Ali al Maani, Dean of Al Zahra College for Women. – ONA
