SUHAR, JUNE 24

Under the slogan “Our Environment: Trust and Sustainability,” the Environment Authority (EA) in Al Batinah North is launching a series of activities for school students as part of the “Our Summer: Leadership and Creativity 2026” initiative. Organised in cooperation with the Office of the Governor of Al Batinah North, the programmes will run from June 29 to July 2, targeting children aged 10 to 14 years.

The initiative reflects the Authority’s commitment to making productive use of the summer vacation by enhancing environmental awareness among young people and promoting sustainability values through a variety of interactive educational activities.

The first event will feature an educational field trip to Mini Zoo Park in Suhar, where participants will explore biodiversity, learn about different animal species and their natural habitats, and gain a deeper understanding of wildlife conservation. The visit is also designed to strengthen students’ observation and exploration skills while encouraging compassion toward animals.

On June 30, the Environment Department will host the workshop “I Decorate My Bag,” during which students will design and decorate bags using colours, shells, beads, and other natural materials. The workshop aims to nurture artistic creativity while encouraging the reuse of available resources in innovative ways that support environmental sustainability.

Participants will accordingly join the workshop “Taking Care of My Beautiful Seedling,” where they will learn the basics of home gardening, including watering, fertilising and caring for plants. The activity seeks to foster a love for nature and strengthen students’ sense of environmental responsibility.

The programme will conclude on July 2 with the workshop “World of the Seas,” which will involve creating artistic models inspired by the marine environment using sand, shells, and eco-friendly materials. Students will learn about the ecological and economic importance of marine ecosystems while developing their creative and artistic skills.

Eng Nasser bin Hamood al Yaqubi, Director of the Environment Department in Al Batinah North, emphasised that these programmes form part of the Authority’s ongoing efforts to spread environmental culture among all segments of society, particularly students, who represent the foundation of a sustainable future.

One parent of a participating student expressed appreciation for the initiative, highlighting the importance of environmental programmes in shaping children’s awareness and character.

“In today’s world, children spend a great deal of time with technology and indoor activities. Programmes like these provide valuable opportunities for them to connect with nature, learn about environmental responsibility and develop practical skills in an enjoyable way. We are pleased to see our children engaged in activities that teach them how to care for plants, protect wildlife and appreciate the natural resources around them. Such experiences help build responsible future citizens who understand the importance of preserving the environment for future generations.”
