Muscat: Oman’s national teams raised the Sultanate of Oman’s medal tally to 28 at the fourth GCC Games Doha 2026 after adding four new bronze medals through shooting, snooker and volleyball as the regional multi-sport event heads towards its conclusion on Friday.
The national shooting team continued its strong presence in Doha by winning two bronze medals in the men’s 10m air pistol event. Shooter Salim bin Talib al Hinai claimed bronze in the individual competition, before joining Sulaiman bin Abdullah al Rahbi and Salim bin Fasil al Shidi to secure another bronze in the men’s team event.
Al Hinai expressed his delight with the result, saying the achievement came through teamwork and the support of all members of the national delegation. He added that the level of competition was high among the GCC teams, which gave the athletes greater motivation to improve and deliver stronger performances.
“The competition was tough and very competitive, but it was an important experience for us. This participation represents a valuable step in our preparations for the coming championships,” he said.
In snooker, Oman’s national team also added a bronze medal in the team event through the trio of Ahmed bin Bashir al Khasibi, Sami bin Salim al Hamrashdi and Qasim bin Rashid al Balushi.
The UAE won the gold medal after defeating Qatar 3-0 in the final. The UAE team featured Mohammed Shehab, Khalid Kamali and Abdulrahman Shamsi, while Qatar were represented by Ali al Obaidli, Ahmed Saif and Bashar Hussein. The team snooker competition featured 18 players from six GCC teams, with three players representing each nation.
Oman’s volleyball team concluded its campaign on a positive note by winning the bronze medal after a deserved 3-1 victory over the UAE. The national team took the first set 25-17 before the UAE levelled the match by winning the second set 25-22. Oman then regained control and sealed the third and fourth sets 25-20 and 25-17 to secure third place.
The result marked Oman’s first win in the volleyball competition after earlier defeats against Bahrain and Qatar. Bahrain claimed the gold medal after beating hosts Qatar 3-0 in the final, while Qatar settled for silver. Gulf Times also reported Oman’s bronze-medal win over the UAE in the third-place playoff.
Abdullah bin Mohammed Bamakhalef, Secretary-General of the Oman Olympic Committee, said the GCC Games came at an ideal time and helped strengthen sporting ties among GCC nations.
“We thank Qatar for hosting and organising this edition. The competition was strong, and the organisation was outstanding,” he said.
Bamakhalef added that Oman’s results were satisfactory, especially given the high level of competition, noting that the Oman Olympic Committee will continue focusing on individual sports while conducting a full technical evaluation of all national teams through the High Performance Committee ahead of future regional and continental events.
