MUSCAT: Three teams emerged as winners at the conclusion of the 'Oman Game Jam 2026' video game development camp, organised by the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology (MoTCIT).

The closing ceremony was held under the auspices of Dr Ali bin Amer al Shaithani, Under-Secretary of the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology for Communications and Information Technology, at Al Nahda Training Institute.

The camp was part of the 'Makin' initiative aimed at qualifying digital talents. It was implemented by Al Nahda Training Institute in collaboration with global technology company Unity, with participation from specialists in technology and video game development.

Spanning six months, the programme targeted job seekers from various technical backgrounds as well as digital game development enthusiasts. A total of 50 participants took part in two main tracks — game programming and design art.

The camp combined theoretical learning with practical application, focusing on the development of real projects using the Unity engine. Participants also received training in professional and personal skills to enhance their readiness for the job market.

In addition, the programme created avenues for exposure to the labour market through engagement with specialised technology companies. This enabled participants to explore freelance pathways and tap into opportunities in the local and regional digital gaming industry.

During the final competition, teams worked over three consecutive days to design innovative games reflecting Omani identity, while ensuring technical completeness and functionality.

Next Levet secured first place, followed by DSHMO in second place and Metro in third. Sirdam ranked fourth, while Heisenberg came fifth. The winning teams received financial awards in recognition of their creativity and excellence.

The camp marks a significant step in supporting and empowering Omani youth and strengthening their competitiveness in the digital game development sector.

It also underscores the ministry’s commitment to nurturing national technological talent and building advanced digital capabilities among young Omanis.
