

MUSCAT: The crescent moon of Dhul Hijjah, 1447 AH has been sighted making Monday May 18 the first day of Dhul Hijjah while the first day of Eid Al Adha will fall on Wednesday, May 27, the Main Committee for Determining the Crescent Moons of the Islamic Months, announced on Sunday.
The Committee issued a statement reading as follows:
“The Main Committee for Determining the Crescent Moons of the Islamic Months convened on Sunday, Dhul-Qa’dah 29,1447 AH, corresponding to May 17, 2026, under the chairmanship of Dr Mohammed bin Said al Maamari, Minister of Awqaf and Religious Affairs in the presence of the committee’s members:
His Eminence Shaikh Dr Kahlan bin Nabhan al Kharousi, Assistant Grand Mufti of the Sultanate of Oman.
Eng Khalid bin Hilal al Busaidy, Under-Secretary of the Ministry of Interior.
Mohammed bin Salem al Akhzami, Supreme Court Judge
Abdulrahman bin Abdul Sattar al Kamali, Supreme Court Judge
Mohammed bin Salem al Nahdi, Judge of the Supreme Court.
The committee received reports confirming the sighting of the crescent moon of Dhul Hijjah, 1447 AH. Following a review of the reports received, the committee decided that the crescent moon of Dhul Hijjah, 1447 AH has been sighted. Accordingly, Monday, May 18, 2026, will be the first day of Dhul Hijjah 1447 AH, and the first day of Eid al-Adha will be Wednesday, May 27, 2026 corresponding to the 10th of Dhul Hijjah, 1447 AH.
On this blessed occasion, the Ministry of Awqaf and Religious Affairs would like to extend its sincerest congratulations and best wishes to His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik, praying to Allah Almighty to grant His Majesty continued health, well-being and blessings, and to grant the Sultanate of Oman everlasting prosperity and glory, and all Muslims peace and security, and blessings.”
