Oman, Kazakhstan strengthen economic ties

ASTANA: His Highness Sayyid Theyazin bin Haitham Al Said, Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs, held official talks with Kazakhstan’s Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov during an official visit to the Central Asian nation, marking a significant step in strengthening bilateral relations.

During the meeting at the Kazakh Council of Ministers headquarters, both sides reviewed existing cooperation and explored avenues to expand collaboration in key sectors including energy, mining, technology, tourism, education and logistics. The discussions underscored a shared commitment to aligning development visions and enhancing economic integration between the two countries.

On the sidelines of the visit, Oman and Kazakhstan signed a preliminary agreement to establish a strategic partnership aimed at launching a joint investment fund. The initiative seeks to develop and invest in promising opportunities in both countries, supporting economic diversification and sustainable growth.

The proposed fund will be equally financed by Oman Investment Authority and its Kazakh counterpart, ensuring balanced participation and mutual benefit. It will focus on priority sectors such as manufacturing, healthcare, renewable energy, logistics and mining, among others.

His Highness Sayyid Theyazin described the agreement as a strategic milestone reflecting the two nations’ commitment to deepening economic diplomacy and expanding international partnerships in line with Oman Vision 2040. He emphasized that the initiative would enhance market connectivity and reinforce Oman’s position as a reliable economic partner.

Abdulsalam Al Murshidi, Chairman of Oman Investment Authority, noted that the agreement represents the Authority’s eleventh strategic partnership with global sovereign wealth funds, highlighting Oman’s proactive approach to building high-quality international investment alliances.

During the visit, His Highness also toured the Astana International Financial Centre and the International AI Centre at Expo City, where he was briefed on initiatives supporting investment ecosystems, digital innovation and startup development.

Additionally, he visited the Grand Mosque in Astana, where he reviewed its architectural design and cultural significance as a major religious and educational landmark in Central Asia.

The two-day visit concluded with an official farewell attended by senior Kazakh officials, reflecting the growing momentum in Oman-Kazakhstan relations and their shared vision for expanded economic cooperation.
