

HH Sayyid Theyazin bin Haitham al Said, Minister of Culture, Sports and Youth, presided over the opening ceremony of the Arab Shooting Championship 2025, in the presence of Maj Gen Mattar bin Salim al Balushi, first Vice-Chairman of Oman Shooting Association, on Saturday. The opening ceremony was held at the Al Shafaq Club of the Sultan’s Armed Forces. The ceremony combined authenticity and modernity with a visual presentation featuring the long history of shooting. Brig Gen Khalid bin Ali al Muqbali, Secretary General of the Oman Shooting Federation, emphasised that this championship aims to strengthen the bonds of brotherhood and cooperation, as these sporting gatherings represent a means to unify and strengthen common ties within the framework of fraternal values and principles.
For his part, Eng Duaij Khalaf al Otaibi, President of the Arab Shooting Federation, pointed in his speech to the vision of the Arab Federation in supporting and developing this sport and enhancing cooperation between the Arab national federations.
In his speech, Luciano Rossi, President of the International Shooting Sport Federation, highlighted the importance of the championship and its international standing, announcing that the Sultanate of Oman has been granted the right to organise a new championship under the name (Sultan of Oman International Open Shooting Cup), following the International Shooting Sport Federation’s approval and official support for this new international event, to be a prominent platform for promoting sporting excellence, consolidating international cooperation, and embodying the sustainable partnership between the International Shooting Sport Federation and the Sultanate of Oman, reflecting the advanced position that the Sultanate of Oman enjoys on the world sports map. — ONA
