BIDIYAH: Construction of the ‘Bidiya Entertainment Centre’ in the Wilayat of Bidiyah, Al Sharqiyah North Governorate, has reached 93 per cent completion, with the RO 2.547 million project expected to be finalised by July.
The project, implemented by the Al Sharqiyah North Municipality, is designed to serve as a major tourism, cultural and recreational hub in the governorate.
Dr Zubaida bint Salim al Shaithani, official spokesperson for the governorate, described the centre as one of the most prominent development projects currently underway, adding that it represents a significant addition to Oman’s recreational infrastructure.
She noted that the project will enrich tourism, cultural, and social activities in Bidiyah, which is known for its vibrant winter season extending from October to March.
The centre is expected to host conferences, festivals, exhibitions, and local and international events. Facilities include an open-air theatre equipped with advanced projection and lighting systems, multiple halls, dedicated zones for electronic games and children’s entertainment and landscaped outdoor areas.
The architectural design reflects Bidiyah’s desert environment, incorporating walkways, green spaces, and retail areas featuring shops, restaurants and kiosks.
Officials highlighted the project’s role in supporting economic diversification, stimulating small and medium enterprises, increasing local spending, and strengthening the overall economic cycle in the governorate.
The project aligns with the governorate’s annual development plan, which focuses on maximising tourism potential, enhancing investment efficiency, and improving competitiveness. — ONA
