

MUSCAT: Two representatives of the Oman national sailing team, Ahmed al Hosni and Waleed al Kindi, are competing in the 57th edition of Semaine Olympique Francaise 2026, taking place in Hyeres, France, from April 20 to 25, as part of the prestigious Sailing Grand Slam series.
The regatta is considered one of the leading international events in the sailing calendar, bringing together elite competitors from around the world across Olympic classes. It serves as a key platform for preparation ahead of major competitions, including the Olympic Games.
Races will be held in Hyeres Bay, one of the world’s most renowned sailing venues. The competition will begin with qualification races from April 20 to 23, followed by medal races and finals on April 25, concluding with the official closing ceremony. The Omani sailors will compete against a strong international field, gaining valuable experience at one of the sport’s top international events. The team is supported by Coach Jacek Novak, who brings international experience in sailing coaching and has contributed to athlete development programs and preparations for major competitions, enhancing the team’s technical readiness. Head coach Hashim al Rashdi confirmed that the team is well prepared for the event. “The sailors are in good physical and technical condition. We have focused on improving tactical performance, mental readiness, and the ability to adapt to different racing conditions,” he said.
He added: “Competing in an event of this calibre provides a valuable opportunity to race against world class sailors, which plays a key role in enhancing performance and gaining experience.”
Al Rashdi noted that this participation is part of a long-term strategy to strengthen Oman’s presence in international sailing and develop athletes for upcoming competitions.
Ahmed al Hosni and Waleed al Kindi will be aiming to deliver strong performances and continue showcasing the progress of Omani sailing on the global stage.
