MUSCAT: Himma camel race concluded on Thursday at Himma Track in Al Wusta Governorate, supported by Oman Shell, marking a strong turnout and competitive participation across the various categories.


The event was organised by the Oman Camel Racing Federation (OCRF) and held under the auspices of Shaikh Mohammed bin Ali al Ghufaili, Wali of Haima, who honoured the winners as well as participating government and private entities.


The one-day race featured a total of eight rounds across three categories, with four rounds in the Hagayeg category, two rounds in Laqaya and two rounds in Iyada, held over distances of 3 km for Hagayeg and 4 km for both Laqaya and Iyada.


The event included six trophies allocated to the main rounds, in addition to cash prizes awarded to the top ten finishers in each round, reflecting the competitive strength and wide participation witnessed throughout the festival.

The race comes as part of a series of events organised by the Oman Camel Racing Federation during the 2025–2026 season, where the federation has conducted nine events under its direct support, in addition to organising three races backed by Oman Shell and three others supported by Occidental Oman, reflecting ongoing efforts to sustain and expand this traditional sport across the Sultanate of Oman.


The festival witnessed a notable public turnout and wide participation from camel owners and trainers representing various wilayats, under well-organised arrangements that highlight the federation’s commitment to preserving the cultural heritage of camel racing, while also contributing to sporting and economic activity in Al Wusta Governorate.
