MUSCAT: The Directorate-General of Inquiries and Criminal Investigation at Royal Oman Police (ROP) has warned of a novel scam method in which perpetrators use fake Instagram accounts to impersonate insurance staff to dupe their victims into paying money to insure their properties.

The ROP warned the public not to share personal or banking information and not to pay any money before verifying the legitimacy of the electronic accounts of the institutions and companies they are dealing with.

The Directorate-General of Inquiries and Criminal Investigation said that it is closely monitoring emerging scam methods and takes legal action against anyone proven to be involved in fraud.

Warning against a significant increase in such scams, the ROP stressed the need for caution while dealing with online entities or through various communication channels, and advised against responding to any communication without verifying its credibility.
