MUSCAT: The Consumer Protection Authority (CPA) has stepped up monitoring and field inspections across Oman’s governorates and wilayats to ensure market stability and enforce compliance with regulations following the recent Al Masarrat weather system.

The intensified campaign focuses on verifying suppliers’ adherence to approved pricing and preventing unjustified price increases or stockpiling. Inspection teams are also assessing the resilience of supply chains to ensure uninterrupted availability of essential and consumer goods.

The Authority said the measures are aimed at maintaining normal market conditions after the weather disturbance, while safeguarding consumers from potential exploitation. Particular attention is being given to areas that witnessed heightened purchasing activity in recent days.

The CPA continues to coordinate with relevant government entities to evaluate any impacts arising from the weather event and to address emerging market challenges. It emphasised that suppliers must comply fully with trade regulations and avoid taking advantage of exceptional circumstances for unlawful gain.

At the same time, the Authority commended consumers for their awareness and cooperation in reporting violations, noting that public engagement remains a key pillar in strengthening oversight.

The CPA reaffirmed its commitment to sustained monitoring and awareness campaigns to protect consumer rights and reinforce market discipline. These efforts are aligned with Oman Vision 2040, which seeks to promote a fair, transparent and resilient economic environment while ensuring the availability of essential goods and services under all conditions. — ONA
