Muscat: The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) has issued Alert No (7) warning of heavy rainfall associated with the latest weather system affecting the Sultanate of Oman.

The alert, which came into effect at 10:00 pm on Friday, will continue until 10:00 pm on Saturday, with its impact expected across several governorates.

According to the authority, the current conditions will bring thundershowers of varying intensity, at times heavy, accompanied by hail and active downdraft winds over North Al Batinah, Al Buraimi, Al Dhahirah, South Al Batinah, Al Dakhiliyah, Muscat, North and South Al Sharqiyah, gradually extending to Al Wusta and Dhofar governorates.

The authority indicated that the weather conditions are expected to gradually weaken from Saturday evening over northern governorates, while the impact will persist over Al Wusta, Dhofar and parts of South Al Sharqiyah overlooking the Arabian Sea until Sunday morning.

Wind speeds are expected to range between 20 and 50 knots, leading to reduced horizontal visibility during rainfall, which may drop significantly at times.

The CAA has urged the public to exercise caution, avoid crossing wadis, stay away from low-lying areas, and refrain from venturing into the sea during the alert period.
