MUSCAT: Under the slogan 'The road unites us and our behaviour on it reflects our identity', the Royal Oman Police (ROP) is intensifying its efforts to ensure smooth traffic flow as Eid Al Fitr approaches and the accompanying surge in traffic.

The Royal Oman Police emphasises the importance of avoiding common traffic violations, such as overtaking on the shoulder of the road which obstructs emergency vehicles and exacerbates congestion, distractions while driving, especially using mobile phones while driving in crowded areas and excessive speed.

The ROP appeals to citizens and residents to plan their trips in advance and travel during off-peak hours whenever possible.

As preparations for Eid Al Fitr intensify, the roads in the Sultanate of Oman are experiencing a significant flow of traffic, particularly during the evening hours and peak traffic times.

For citizens and residents travelling to their home towns for the Eid holidays, the Royal Oman Police emphasises the importance of inspecting their vehicles before setting off and avoiding long journeys without adequate rest.

Adhering to traffic regulations during this time is a noble act of worship and a way to draw closer to Allah by protecting yourself and others. Be a role model in compliance, and make your journey a bridge to joy, not a path to sorrow.

SAFETY TIPS

- Avoid rushing for Iftar. Start at least 10 minutes early to avoid stress.

- Be aware of drowsiness. If you feel sleepy, pull over immediately.

- Maintain a safe distance, as drivers tend to tailgate.

- Avoid excessive honking, yield the right-of-way to others.
