MUSCAT: The Ministry of Energy and Minerals has launched the second edition of the “Majd” Award for Local Content, an initiative aimed at strengthening domestic participation across the energy and minerals sectors.

The award forms part of the wider Majd programme, which seeks to encourage companies and institutions to introduce initiatives that support the national economy and enhance the competitiveness of strategic sectors, in line with the objectives of Oman Vision 2040.

Through the initiative, the ministry aims to reinforce the local content ecosystem, empower national companies and local supply chains, and encourage innovation, industrial investment and human capital development in the Sultanate.

The Majd programme is designed to maximise the economic value generated by the energy and minerals sector by promoting the participation of Omani talent, encouraging the use of locally manufactured products and services, and supporting domestic investments in industrial assets and projects.

The second edition of the award features four main categories: Best Omani Startup of 2026, Best Human Capital Development Initiative in the Energy and Minerals Sector, Best Local Content Programme for Large Companies, and Best Local Manufacturer in the Energy and Minerals Sector.

These categories aim to highlight initiatives that strengthen national capabilities, empower local suppliers and promote innovation and domestic manufacturing, while supporting the development of resilient national supply chains in key sectors.

The ministry has invited companies and institutions operating in the energy and minerals sector to submit applications for the award. Submissions will remain open until April 9, 2026, with winners scheduled to be announced during Oman Sustainability Week and the Oman Petroleum and Energy Conference.

Since its launch, the Majd programme has delivered several notable outcomes. The local content ratio has doubled to 30.6 per cent, while more than 100 industrial facilities and workshops have been established. The initiative has also supported industrial projects related to the energy sector, including the manufacturing of drilling equipment, rigs, drilling materials and pipeline platforms.

Spending on small and medium enterprises (SMEs) has also increased to 15 per cent of total procurement value, while job localisation in oil and gas operating companies has reached 91.2 per cent.
